Introducing the Young Authors Guild

Today we’re excited to announce an expansion to WMAA’s TNT offerings—a Wednesday night program specifically designed for young writers.

Why Young Authors

Love of writing tends to start early, and many adult writers cite formative experiences in their youth that inspired their passion for the written word and encouraged them to continue telling their stories. We believe that forming the next generation of writers in West Michigan starts with creating an environment that facilitates those experiences.

About the Program

In this first year, the Young Authors Guild (YAG) seeks to promote creativity while teaching the basics of fiction: plot, characters, style, and theme. Our young authors will meet two Wednesday nights in November from 6pm-8pm (November 5th & 19th for ages 8-12, November 12th & 26th for ages 13-17) at Jason’s Books and Coffee in Wyoming. During these two hours, we’ll have a short discussion about one or two of our fiction elements, then play writing games designed to get us thinking about the element(s) in question. Most importantly, we’ll have fun!

Who We Are

The Young Authors Guild is led by program leaders Allison Hawkins and Andrew Ronzino. Allison is the owner of Fourth Form Martial Arts Studio in Wyoming. She previously served as the Youth Coordinator at St. Mary Magdalen, and she currently volunteers at the Ottawa County Juvenile Detention Center. Andrew currently serves as the Director of Youth Ministry at Zion Reformed Church and is the Program Director for Grand River Writing Tribe.

All WMAA’s safety standards apply, and the location is equipped with cameras for additional security.

If you know of a young writer interested in registering, please click here for a link to our Google form or email Allison at allison@allihawkwrites.com. Registration is due by Wednesday, October 29th.

We hope that you will join us for our inaugural program year!
